Gazetteers

Next I want to speak a little about Gazetteers. I mainly used the Swedish Gazetteers off of the Swedish FamilySearch Wiki page.

As the FamilySearch Wiki page explains, a gazetteer is a record of place-names used for various purposes. Some were created for postal guides or for documenting geography, while I have used gazetteers to find my town in a certain region. I particularly enjoyed using a gazetteer to find out that my town name, acutally translated to Upper Farm - a farm not an actual town.

Locating gazetteers can be as easy as googling "Swedish gezetteers". However, there are sites that compile links to one spot.

Keep in mind that a Swedish gazetteer will most likely be in English, but there might be a language conversion option on the webpage.
